Hoa Binh Theatre is located in “an ugly Soviet-era palace,” explains Fodors, and is mostly used for local Vietnamese dramas, puppet shows, “and the occasional fashion show.”
Thu Do Theatre “is the place to catch a performance of Cai Luong, the traditional Southern Vietnamese folk opera featuring elaborate costumes and makeup, with the singing accompanied by dan tranh, the Vietnamese zither,” says Fodors. “The website is in Vietnamese and the theater reception staff have limited English so it's best you get some local help organizing tickets.”
