Puppetry: head to the Golden Dragon Water Puppet Theatre

Water puppetry is “the intangible cultural identity of Vietnamese,” explains Living Nomads -- it’s a “folk art form that characterizes the Vietnamese’s ancient rice civilization” where the puppeteer uses “water surface (also known as a puppet house or a water house) as a stage which is erected in the middle of ponds or lakes with balanced architecture representing the communal roof in the countryside of Vietnam.”

“Don’t worry that the dialogue is in Vietnamese,” says The Telegraph -- the puppeteers at the Golden Dragon Water Puppet Theatre, “immersed in water to the waist and hidden behind the set, create a show that is comical, poetic and visually spectacular.” The early-evening timing of the shows make them “a fun activity with the kids before bed or dinner and consist of a dozen or so sketches on themes like rearing ducks and catching foxes, boat racing and unicorns playing with a ball,” writes Rough Guides.
