Star power: the Venice Film Festival

It’s the oldest “and arguably most prestigious” film festival in the world, says Livia Hengel at The Culture Trip. Founded in 1932, it is part of the Venice Biennale and takes place in late August or early September on the Lido of Venice. “In 1949, the Leone d’Oro (Golden Lion) prize was introduced and remains one of the film industry’s most distinguished prizes, alongside the Palme d’Or in Cannes and the Golden Bear in Berlin,” backgrounds Hengel.

This is “the most traditionally glamorous” of the world’s film festivals, says Harriet Verney at CNN. Founded in 1932 as part of the Venice Biennale, the first Venice International Film Festival “had neither a jury nor prizes,” explain Philippe and Oscar Duboÿ in the Louis Vuitton Venice Guide. “It may play second fiddle to Cannes as a venue for dealmakers, but it’s even more important as a launchpad for Europe’s fall movie season,” says Europe for Visitors. Attracting A-List celebrities, Vogue and Vanity Fair feature the best red-carpet fashion while The Hollywood Reporter offers dedicated coverage of the festival, which takes place on the Lido over ten days. “Stars navigating the city by boat have turned its canals into floating red carpets -- perfect for a photo-op, as decades of celebrities and photographers have found out,” says Harriet Verney at CNN_._
