Respect Venice: “you’re welcome here but you must play by the rules,” says Julia Buckley in the The Independent. And that means no swimming in the lagoon. After all, the canals are the city’s highways and the lagoon is a fragile eco-system. For swimming, head to the beaches at the Lido or Lido di Jesolo, which are both just a boat ride away. “Being a passionate swimmer, I often travel with a swimsuit and goggles,” writes Sally Spector in the City Secrets Guide, so “perhaps others would be interested in Venice’s two modern, clean, twenty-five-meter public pools…One is in Cannaregio, at Sant’Alvise, and the other is on the Giudecca at Sacca Fisola, Campo San Gerardo.” You can find all the details here.
