Stage: a vibrant city of theatres and attentive audiences

There's nothing quite like a night at the theatre, says Weekend Notes, and Melbourne is home to an arts scene rich in history and diversity -- “from comedy, to live theatre, movies, musicals, and bands, there are many options for a night of entertainment.” Curtains rise every night in Melbourne to cheering audiences anticipating the latest theatrical productions, says The Culture Trip, and although there are plenty of mainstream, heritage-listed theatres to visit, many of the city’s most experimental and thought-provoking productions are held at independent theatres. “Melbourne’s independent theatre scene hosts a variety of contemporary works packed with boundary-pushing narratives from emerging and established artists.” Here’s Time Out’s current listing of productions on the Melbourne stage, and here are ‘The Best Pre-Theatre Bites in Town’ from the Weekly Review.
